Application

Descriptions:

  • Magnesium oxide (MgO) is a white hygroscopic solid mineral.

  • Magnesium oxide occurs naturally as periclase, it is a source of magnesium.

  • Magnesium oxide was known as magnesia alba, to differentiate it from magnesia negra, a black mineral containing what is now known as manganese.

Uses:

For Fertilizer:

  • MgO is commonly used as a supplement for magnesium deficient soils especially for crops such as citrus, potatoes, vegetables, fruits and grass pastures.

  • Magnesium is a required element in plant photosynthesis. MgO offers an available source of magnesium for varioufertilizer applications.

For Animal Feed and Health:

  • MgO is a supplemental source of magnesium which is required to maintain healthy levels within a ruminant's diet.

  • MgO is also an important source of magnesium for rumen buffers and dairy supplements, which aids in increasing lactational performance.

For Insulator:

  • Magnesium oxide powder makes an excellent insulator.

  • MgO is used as the mineral component of mineral-insulated copper-clad cables, which is used for the protection of particularly critical electrical circuits during a fire.

For Refractory:

  • MgO is used as a refractory agent in the construction of crucibles.

For Dietary Supplement:

  • Magnesium oxide is used in dietary supplements for humans and in pill form or be included in multivitamins.

For Coatings:

  • MgO is used as pigment extender in paint and varnish.

For Steel industry:

  • MgO is used for annealing process; coating for grain-oriented silicon steel used in electrical transformers.

For Glass manufacture:

  • MgO is used as ingredient for specialty, scientific and decorative glassware and fiberglass.
