Application

Descriptions:

  • Ferrous Sulfate Heptahydrate is also called copperas.

  • Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate is blue-green crystals or granules that are efflorescent in dry air.

  • Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate is a weak reducing agent.

  • It's soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol.

  • In moist air, it oxidizes readily to form a brown-yellow, basic ferric sulfate.

Uses:

For Nutritional Supplement

  • Ferrous sulphate is used to fortify foods and treat iron-deficiency anemia together with other iron compounds.

  • Constipation is a frequent and uncomfortable side effect associated with the administration of oral supplements.

For Colorant

  • Ferrous sulphate can also be used to stain concrete, some limetones and sandstones a yellowish rust color.

For Water Treatment

  • Ferrous sulphate has been applied for the purification of water by flocculation and for phosphate removal in municipal and industrial sewage treatment plants, which is to prevent eutrophication of surface water bodies.

For Industry

  • Ferrous sulphate is mainly used as a precursor to other iron compounds.

  • It is a reducing agent for the reduction of chromate in cement.
