Application

Description of Sorbic acid:

  • Sorbic acid is colorless needle crystal or white crystalline powder.

  • Sorbic acid is tasteless, slight acidic and astringent taste with a faint odor.

  • Sorbic acid is easily soluble in alchol, diethyl ether, glycerin and other organic solvents, but not in water.

  • Sorbic acid can restrain effectively the activity of mould, yeast and aerophile bacteria. Meanwhile, it cannot restrain useful microoraganim growth as Anaerobic spore-bearing bacilli, acidophil therefore to lengthen food store period and remain food original flavor.

  • The preservative efficiency of sorbic acid is 5-10 times sodium benzoate.

  • Sorbic acid may be sensitive to exposure to air and heat.

  • Sorbic Acid is stable in sealed status, but it will be oxidized into colored ones and absorbing moisture in case exposed in air for a long time.

Usage of Sorbic acid:

  • In the food industry Sorbic acid is used as a preservative for wine, beverages, soy sauce, sauce products and pickles, aquatic products, meat and sausages and other food preservation.

  • Sorbic acid has been used extensively in tobacco, drugs, cosmetics, agricultural products, forage and other industries.

  • As the unsaturated acid, Sorbic acid can also be used for resins, spices and rubber industry.

  • Sorbic acid can be used by direct adding, spraying, retting, dry spraying, using in packing material and other methods.

  • Sorbic acid does not have carcinogenic and teratogenic effects on the human body.

  • Since Sorbic acid is not very high soluble in water, which affects its application. Therefore, Sorbic acid is usually made as  potassiumsorbate for a good solubility, E200 products to expand the scope of application.
